As awareness of the consequences and costs of insomnia continues to rise, there is increasing evidence showcasing the effectiveness of cognitive-behavioral therapy for insomnia (CBT-I). Despite this progress, a significant gap remains between the available research and current clinical practice. Key barriers include economic challenges, limited access to treatment, and ineffective dissemination of crucial knowledge.
To address these issues, there is a pressing need for practical resources that facilitate access to and implementation of insomnia interventions. As scientist-practitioners, we frequently receive requests from clinicians worldwide for useful questionnaires and handouts to aid in treating patients with insomnia.
Inspired during an international sleep meeting—specifically, on a train journey between Dresden and Prague—we developed an outline for a comprehensive handbook designed to bridge this gap. This clinical handbook outlines an evidence-based treatment program for insomnia that is both practical and effective.
